Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is electrotherapy?
A: Electrotherapy is a broad term for non-invasive treatments that use different spectrums of electromagnetic energy to promote healing and wellness. At Body Electric, the electrotherapy modalities that we use for treatment are light therapy, vibroacoustic sound therapy, and PEMF therapy.
Q: What is photobiomodulation (light therapy)?
A: Photobiomodulation (light therapy) uses low-level wavelengths of red light and near infrared light to stimulate the body's natural healing processes. It can improve skin health, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair.
Q: What is vibroacoustic sound therapy?
A: Vibroacoustic sound therapy uses low-frequency sound waves to provide relaxation and therapeutic grade relief. Its like a gentle harmonic massage penetrating the entire body. It can reduce stress, alleviate pain, and improve overall well-being.
Q: What is PEMF therapy?
A: PEMF therapy uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to stimulate cell repair and regeneration. Its a boost of energy on the cellular level. It can improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
Q: How many sessions do I need to see results?
A: Although we expect you to feel better from the very first session, we recognize that every individual is unique and healing can take time. Many of our clients see results immediately and are amazed at what one session can do, but we find that most people get the best results between 8-12 sessions over a period of 4-6 weeks.
The more often that you return, the easier it is to get back to that state of relaxation in which healing can take place.
We recommend scheduling weekly maintenance sessions after you have addressed your initial wellness concerns to promote best ongoing results in vitality and wellness.
Q: Is this covered by insurance?
A: While we do not accept insurance, we offer affordable and competitive pricing for all of our services. It is about the price of a high quality massage with many more benefits.
Q: Do I need to see a doctor before starting treatment?
A: While a doctor's referral is not necessary, we do recommend that you speak with your primary care physician before starting any new wellness regimen.
Q: Are there any side effects?
A: Everything that we do is safe and you will be guided to wear protective eye equipment for lights when needed. We only operate at safe spectrums of energy that are proven to be beneficial to the body and show no known negative side effects.
When employing magnetic therapy, it's important to be aware of the potential for a sudden increase in blood circulation, which may cause discomfort, particularly in any tissues/areas with restricted or reduced blood flow. While this boost in circulation is typically beneficial, it's possible to experience temporary discomfort immediately after the treatment.
When magnetic fields are applied to nerve cells, it is possible to experience temporary aggravation of pain. This occurs due to increased signal traffic and improved circulation to the nerves. Individuals with past fractures or scars may also feel temporary pain as the magnetic fields stimulate those areas. In some instances, magnetic therapy may appear to "chase the pain," where pain or discomfort seems to shift to another area after one area improves. This is a normal function of magnetic field therapy. As one area improves, there is potential to feel increased discomfort sensations in additional areas needing treatment.
However, if the therapy causes pain or discomfort in a body part that typically does not hurt, it could indicate an underlying problem in that area. In such cases, seeking medical evaluation is advisable. Magnetic therapy can serve as an early warning sign, helping to identify potential issues in the body.
There are typically no known negative side effects associated with our integrative electrotherapy wellness therapies. There are a couple known contraindications (conditions where people should not use electrotherapy) that are listed in the question 'who should not use electrotherapy' below.
However, we do recommend that you inform our practitioners of any pre-existing medical conditions, as well as any medications you are taking, to ensure that our therapies are a good fit for you. It is also important to note that our therapies are not intended to replace traditional medical care, and again, we always recommend that you consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any new wellness regimen.
Q: Who should not use electrotherapy?
A: There are a select few instances where individuals should refrain from using electrotherapy.
These are listed as follows:
Pregnancy
Implanted devices: People with implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers, insulin pumps, or cochlear implants
Epilepsy/Seizure disorders
Transplant recipients
Recent Fracture or broken bone - PEMF and vibroacoustic therapy can help with pain and inflammation in the sub acute stage and remodeling stage of recovery, but please consult a physician or doctor before supplementing your recovery with electrotherapy

Recent psychosis or mental episodes
We also recommend that you refrain from using light therapy if you have any of the following:
Photosensitivity
